Bald cypresses in the Bayou, deep in Cajun Country

The Cajuns of Louisiana (USA) are the descendants of the French-speaking Acadians, who two years ago (in 2005) commemorated the 250th anniversary of their deportation from Canada.. The distinctive culture, language, music and cuisine of the Cajuns are accentuated by the extraordinary physical landscape of French Louisiana – in particular the Atchafalaya wetlands, which were not bridged until as late as 1970. Cajun stories are told through Creole, Cajun and Zydeco music, which can be heard throughout French Louisiana and in particular at Lafayette’s giant annual (April) Festival International de Louisiane.
