Most first-time visitors tackle the USA with a mixture of fear and fascination.  Stodgy food and dodgy business practices, high prices and gun freaks are all there alongside unvarnished hospitality, unsurpassed natural wonders, Walt Disney’s wonder world and the manic magic of Manhattan - and those endless, unfolding highways.

America is the ultimate road trip.  Cruising the Interstates, negotiating Tinseltown’s spaghetti junctions, raising the dust in the Mojave Desert.... all these images are exotic yet made familiar by the silver screen.   But what is the reality behind the flickering images?
