Khabarovsk shipping terminal, on the Amur River |
Khabarovsk, on the junction of the giant Ussuri and Amur Rivers in Russia’s Far East, is an unexpectedly gracious city. Its art nouveau Russki-style architecture, unique in Russia, is currently undergoing a full-scale facelift. Khabarovsk (at least in summer) feels as gentle and lackadaisical as a warm breeze across the Amur River. Then, when the leaves turn a few weeks later, the city’s trees come ablaze in Kodachrome colours, of every shade on the red-yellow spectrum.
