Kolkata is a living, vital cultural centre. Calcutta, by contrast, is the rubbish on the pavements, the beggars and the chaos. Kolkata is now helping Calcutta to clean up its act, with the city making steady progress on all fronts. A great new Museum showcasing Calcutta’s history is the multimedia Kolkata Panorama. In early October, Kolkata and Calcutta come together in the staggering Durga Puja festival. The next Durga Puja will run from October 12-21, 2007.
