The sacred Lake Pühajärv

The old mediaeval city of Tallinn, Estonia’s capital, is a joy to experience. But get out of Tallinn and you experience an ancient culture, a way of life so firmly rooted in nature that the foreign domination of the last 700 years seems to have had little impact. Places worth visiting include the World Heritage Hiiumaa Island, Estonia’s second-biggest Island, and Lake Pühajärv, which was visited and blessed by the Dalai Lama in 1992.
