The waterfront city of Dundee used to be known as “the city of jute, jam and journalism”. Now, all these industries have died, with jute replaced by polypropylene, Dundee marmalade decidedly passé, and the city's last newspaper firm DC Thomson rapidly losing market share. But the city has succeeded in re-inventing itself. Now, with a great range of new museums, bars and galleries, Dundee is a most amiable place to visit
