 A tree-house in Hwange National Park |
Hwange National Park is the largest and best gameviewing area in the country and, some say, all of Africa. With roughly 15,000 sq km of protected parklands, it's around the size of Wales or Belgium. During a short stay here it is not impossible to see up to 50 different species of animal and bird life, including rhinoceros, giraffe, zebra, elephant, impala, antelope, kudu, hyena and, if you're lucky, a lion or leopard creeping down to a waterhole at dusk. The only important animal you won't see is the hippopotamus, but they are in abundance at Lake Kariba and on the Zambezi River.
At Hwange Park Safari Lodge, guests don't even have to leave their rooms to see game. The lodge overlooks a group of three waterpans and herds of elephant and other game wander down to drink throughout the day. It is not uncommon to see more animals here than on a game drive and at night, attracted by the lights, elephants roam the lodge grounds in search of pods from the acacia trees……….1500 wds
