On the Air Zim Flight across to the Dark Continent I had been reading up on Zimbabwe; doing the customary last minute research. Someone had given me a copy of African Safari, a magazine for Africa addicts, and in it was best-selling author, Bryce Courtenay's invitation to visit the land of his birth, a piece entitled "I Was Born In Africa". Here was Courtenay telling me I hadn't lived till I'd been to the place where humankind began. Another story too, of a 28-year old Australian theatre publicist who had left her career and the land of her birth to marry a Masai warrior and lead a tribal existence in "God's Own Country"…….
