A satisfied buyer at the Ballinasloe Horse Fair |
The Ballinasloe Horse Fair in central Ireland is the oldest in Europe, dating back over a thousand years to the days of the early Irish kings. Oliver Cromwell and Napoleon both came here to buy their cavalry horses. Paul Dooley, now over 90 years of age, single-handedly revived the flagging fortunes of the Fair in the 1950s, and today it is bigger and better than ever.
