Alice Springs, in the heart of Australia, has always been a pioneer in new forms of communication. From the early Afghan camel teams to "The Ghan" railway to the world’s first aerial ambulance service, and now full-on into the age of the Internet, Alice always been up there with the best of the pack. Just recently, cameleer Jane Mitchell took a team of camels overland from Finke to Alice Springs, a ten week journey re-creating the days of the pioneers. "The Last Camel Mail" was a commemoration of the last Oodnadatta-Alice Springs Camel Mail run, with over 30 camels re-enacting the long overland journey. Visitors to Alice Springs can re-live these days through camel rides offered by a number of companies - from short guided rides to extended camel treks.
