Malta is an island built entirely of stone...
Sunshine and sandstone, together with its translucent crystal waters – the clearest and cleanest in the Mediterranean – and the luminescent light are what gives Malta its own peculiar character.
The island’s main treasure is its stone, a type of soft powdery limestone which traps the light, earning Malta the name Melita “island of honey”. This golden stone has inspired 7000 years of architecture.
Successive English, Arab and Norman invasions from the sea have left its coastline dotted with medieval forts, ancient castles and Neolithic ruins....
