The Tsunami Mermorial, at Baan Nam Khem

Khao Lak, on Thailand’s Andaman coast (via Phuket), was hit harder by the 2004 tsunami than any other part of Thailand. Now, volunteers are assisting in the rebuilding efforts, with the Tsunami Volunteer Centre in particular doing some great work, while at Pakarang Boatyard, American volunteers are helping to revive traditional boat-building skills. The King and Queen of Denmark have been personally involved in the reconstruction of Baan Nam Khem, the village most devastated by the tsunami. The new Tsunami Memorial Park, near Baan Nam Khem, is a sobering reminder of nature’s destructive power. See image preview: http://www.photographersdirect.com/simmons/search.asp?lb=5949
