                         There is no such thing as a flat surface in the Himalayan state of Sikkim. Hillsides are every year subject to disastrous landslides during the monsoon season, sending whole villages careening down into the raging gorge-rivers, far below. As a result, the Sikkimese have had to learn how to adapt to nature’s whims. But the whims of nature are as nothing when compared with the escapades of the local politicians.
