Palm Valley, Finke Gorge National Park

Is this the world’s oldest (and driest) watercourse?

In the 650 kilometres it meanders from the Macdonnell Ranges down toward the Simpson Desert, Central Australia’s Finke River remains mostly a river of sand.  Fewer than ten permanent waterholes exist, life-savers for human and animal life.

More images from the Centre, including the Finke Gorge National Park, and from the MacDonnell Ranges, including the Finke at Glen Helen.
