On December 3, 1894, a “cloud of gloom” drifted over Samoa. As news spread that its most respected resident had died, a revered chief paid a glowing tribute and then in a ceremony normally reserved for royalty, Robert Louis Stevenson was laid to rest.
The famed writer lived for four years in a plantation home on a hill above Apia. During this time he wrote many of his treasured novels.
Today visitors from around the world come to see the restored home of Tusitala, the “teller of tales”.
A short illustrated feature about Robert Louis Stevenson and his home which is now a museum can be written on assignment from 500 to 1000 words, depending upon editorial requirements. A separate side bar or a full length feature on golfing in Samoa where there are now four courses of merit can also be written.
