Hermannsburg Mission Church, dating from 1897

Twenty years before the "Desert Artists" movement put Australian Aboriginal art firmly on the world market, the famous Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira pioneered new ways of translating the vibrant colours of the outback onto canvas and watercolour paper. This story visits Hermannsburg Mission, where Namatjira grew up and began his collaboration with other major Australian artists.
