Shipshape Bristol

By: Sheriden Rhodes
Companies like Lloyds Bank have made the shift to Bristol.

Historic warehouses have been turned into trendy housing.

Bristol has undergone a metamorphosis from industrial, portside city into a bustling and cosmopolitan commercial centre with a colourful harborside that has benefited from a creative renaissance. Slip into a hip hotel room overlooking the vibrant waterways, board one of the blue and yellow Bristol Ferries that chug happily up the river to see the transformation for yourself; or drop in for lunch at one of Bristol’s trendy waterfront eateries – proof that English food has undergone its own revolution.

The biggest city in the south-west of England was long seen as the poor rleation to its "twin sister" Bath, just 19 km away. Bristol has a rich seafaring history filled with slave traders, tobacco kings and transatlantic entrepreneurs.

Thanks to a massive redevelopment of its once derelict harbourside, Bristol is once again  attracting its fair share of curious visitors, companies and professionals wanting to relocate from the madness of London.
