Singapore Sizzles After Dark

By: Sheriden Rhodes

A persistent drizzle fuels the humidity which laces the muggy night air as buzzing crowds of Singaporeans and holidaymakers head out on the town.  Locals and ex patriots chat animatedly about sport and politics while downing the local Tiger beer at the cluster of bars found in 19th-century Peranakan shop-houses on Emerald Hill. At the Ice cold Beer Bar, hip, young Singaporeans smoke, play pool and munch on the famous and delectable stuffed chicken wings. Along the Esplanade couples stroll arm in arm, dropping in for Chai tea at The Tea Room or something wickedly good at the Max Brennar Chocolate Bar. Others, myself included, head upstairs for a sensory experience at the ultra stylish My Humble House which wows diners with its mix of cool design and superb neo classic Chinese cuisine such as the melt in the mouth wasabi prawns and soft shell crab with pickled salad.

It's well known that eating out in Singapore is considered the national pastime.  And for the serious foodie the city-state's unrivalled, multicultural cuisine is truly the stuff of heaven.
