Gnarled frankincense trees dominate the landcsape of Dhofar |
The rugged Dhofar region of southern Oman was the centre for desert treks by the late English explorer WilfredThesiger, back in the late 1940s. When Thesiger last returned to the region, in 1995, he found that the capital (Salalah) had changed beyond recognition, but that his companions on his earlier expeditions were still alive and well, and continuing to enjoy a traditional Bedouin life-style.
