The British introduced the great game to the little island when they built a 9 hole diversion on Colombo’s centrally located Galle Face Green in 1879. Resited to a suburban tract since 1896 the RCGC is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world.
There’s a definite breath of fresh air at the 1830 m high Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. Winding its way past wooded knolls and beside sparkling streams this 18 hole course has been a sports star in the quaint hill country resort since 1889.
Less than 10 years old, the Victoria International Golf and Country Resort is already well established on the list of must-play courses in Asia. Located just beyond the nation’s cultural capital of Kandy, the resort’s par 73, 6877 yard designer course is sited on 500 tranquil acres of undulating land near the picturesque Victoria Reservoir. Already gaining in popularity, Water’s Edge is the newest sporting retreat in the country. Its many country club facililities have proven to be popular with golf visitors from around the world.
