Cherrapunji town, perched high on a ridge, suffers severe water shortages during the dry season

For many years, the Indian town of Cherrapunji has held the title of wettest place on earth. But incredible as it may sound, the world’s wettest town is now suffering from a shortage of drinking water. Local authority Denis Rayan explains the background to this strange scenario, and also defends the town against rival claims to the title of "world's wettest place" by the nearby village of Mawsynram.
