Bearfence Mountain / Rural Virginia

What better summertime drive than to follow Virginia’s Appalachian parkways through some of the finest countryside in the eastern United States?

One of America’s most accessible parks straddles the easternmost range of the Appalachians, its entrance in northern Virginia a mere 72 miles from Washington D.C.   What better summertime odyssey than to meander down Virginia’s Appalachian parkways, meandering down the 105-mile Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park... then continuing for as much as time will permit of the 469-mile Blue Ridge Parkway right down to the North Carolina state line or on toward the Great Smokies.

This is a journey where the destination is nowhere near as important as the process of getting there.
