A Piece of Pai

By: Thomas E King

Horse around with gentle elephants and then take a safari into the dense forest. (Right) The Phu Pai Art Resort has set new standards for accommodation in this niche destination. (Far Right) Visitors enjoy walking through the forest and encountering the steaming Pai Hot Springs.

The mountainous reaches of northern Thailand – until recent years isolated from the rest of the country – shelter many scenic and cultural treasures.

Pai, population 3000 and the largest settlement in a 20 km long picturesque valley three hours by road west of Chiang Mai, has emerged as a niche destination with hill tribes, hot springs, elephant trekking and sophisticated boutique accommodation like the cosy Phu Pai Art Resort.

With so many things to see and do in such a small area, one thing is assured: a piece of Pai may not be fattening but it certainly is addictive!

An illustrated feature on the Pai can be written on assignment from 1000 to 2000 words, depending upon editorial requirements.
